We’ve unveiled concept art on two of our heroes Kenta and Yumiko. Now it’s time to unveil the concept art evolution of our evil enemy ninja.
Who Is the Evil Ninja?
Though we’re still working on the background story, here’s a glimpse of what we wanted to convey with our bad guy. Our protagonist will need to defeat an army of these enemy ninjas in order to survive.
- Bigger, older, and stronger looking compared to our younger good guy characters
- Look and feel of a typical ninja character
- Dark clothing for our basic enemy ninja as opposed to the light and bright colors of our good guys
- Weapon of choice: shuriken, similar to Kenta
Building the Big Bad GuyOur concept art process went a little smoother than the previous two characters… not sure if it was because we started to get in a groove and gain a bit more experience or if it was because we had a better idea of what we were looking for in our enemy ninja. Either way, we knew the character had to be a stark contrast to the light, bright, youthful hero characters we’ve created thus far. The initial sketch helped us determine what we didn’t want: we wanted a bigger, brawnier adult-looking character with ninja stars as his primary weapon; he didn’t need an arsenal of weapons that the original concept art included. After several drafts, we were really close. We pared down his accessories and took off the fishnet details on his uniform and we had our basic enemy ninja. The main army of evil ninjas will don black and gray uniforms. Special, stronger enemy ninjas will be distinguished by different colored uniforms. Next Steps As we’ve done with our previous characters, we provided our 3D artist with an orthographic projection of our evil ninja character to create the 3D rendering. We’re still waiting to see how this one comes out, but we’re optimistic on this one, as there are fewer uniform details and accessories compared to the previous two character renderings. As always, we’ll keep you posted on how it goes. |
So what do you think of our evil ninja? Is it enough of a contrast from our hero characters?
